Digital Play for Young Children (self-study)

This eight-session course is for parents, carers and early years professionals to build confidence in helping young children play, learn and develop in the digital environment. Digital devices are often part of young children's lives and there are a variety of thoughts and opinions about this. This course is an opportunity to consider how young children interact with digital media and how you can make choices about what is best for the child in your care. The course also explores digital play in the context of children's overall play and development.

The course is for anyone with an interest in young children's development and learning. This might include:

  • Parents and Carers
  • Grandparents
  • Childminders
  • Early Years Educators
  • Nursery Workers
  • Health Practitioners
  • Other professionals who work with families

We hope that this self-study course will be helpful during the Coronavirus stay-at-home period. This could be either because children are at home, or because a professional has time to study before returning to work with young children.

This is an accessible and intuitive self-study resource. You can begin this course at any time, and work though it in your own time.

Before you begin, you will complete a personal learning plan. This will help you to focus on what you want to learn and the way that you learn best.

The course provides options for further reading but can also be completed without this - you can choose how much you want to learn at each stage.
