  • What works and what enhances a childcare setting, for example enabling mixed age groups.
  • Diversity and difference in play settings.
  • Working in partnership with parents/carers and other services
  • Getting It Right For Every Child - exploring the wellbeing wheel.
  • Managing risk in the early years
  • Child protection and the role of staff in identifying and responding to concerns about a child.
  • The value of outings and the importance of careful planning.
  • Preparing for employment or further training.

This course is for people who have a professional interest in the care of young children. These may include:

  • Those who are preparing to work with young children.
  • Those who already work or volunteer with young children, who don't yet have a qualification.
  • Those who would like to study at further education level, but who need a first step course to build their confidence, and ease into learning.
  • Parents/Carers who would like an insight into how their children are cared for in nurseries and other care settings.
  • Any of the above who seek an entry-level qualification (SCQF Level 3) and an opportunity to gain basic digital skills in a meaningful context.

At the beginning of a course you will complete a learning plan to help you focus on what you want to achieve and help you stay on track.

Tutors will offer guidance and feedback on e-tivities and assignments, as well as answering your questions and facilitating a positive and progressive learning environment. We believe you are in charge of your own learning and we are here to support you in getting the most out of our courses.

You will have the opportunity to engage with other students in our forum - a great source of peer learning and support.

If you have reading or language needs, you can seek extra help from our training support worker. Course materials are clearly written so as to be accessible to all.
